At Mayura, animal welfare is not separate from quality — it is a condition of it. Cattle that are comfortable, unstressed and cared for produce better beef, and every part of our operation is built around that principle.
The cattle remain on Mayura property throughout their lives, eliminating the stress and quality variability that transport introduces. They are raised under identical protocols regardless of which cuts they will eventually yield — there is no scenario where some animals receive premium treatment and others receive less. Every animal is raised to the same exacting standards.
Space to roam
Room, rest and clean water
During range feeding the cattle roam in spacious 10,000 m² cells and are moved from one to the next so pasture can rest. The Limestone Coast provides naturally temperate conditions, reliable water sources and limestone-enriched soils, while our facilities offer shelter and climate management that protect cattle from weather extremes.
Five-star comfort
Comfort by design
For finishing, the animals move to the barn affectionately known as the ‘Mayura Moo Cow Motel’ — a large, sheltered space furnished with sawdust floors, designed to provide the ultimate in animal comfort. Here a traditional slow-growth diet improves meat texture, and the low-stress environment lets each animal reach full physiological maturity in its own time.
Health, monitored every day
Animals are monitored throughout their lives for health, growth rates and condition, with veterinary care and interventions recorded for every animal. The beef is HGP free and antibiotic free. Any animal not meeting our standards is removed from the programme rather than allowed to compromise the herd — a standard of care that runs from the paddock to the plate.
